Amtrak Connecting National Parks

If you’re a mountain traveler who loves taking trains, then check out Amtrak’s new connections to U.S. National Parks.
Amtrak has launched the new website Amtraktoparks.com, which is designed to show travelers how they can travel by train to visit the country’s national parks.
Train travelers can find the nearest Amtrak route to the featured national park sites which are accessible via public transportation from an Amtrak station. Users can search based on geographic location and personal interests ranging from Monuments/Memorials, Water Activities to Revolutionary History. Camping site and hotel information and booking rail travel is also available on the site.
Says Dean Reeder, national tourism director, National Park Service:
“Passenger rail and national parks have rolled through history in tandem since the 1880s. By facilitating visitor access to the many wondrous experiences available in many of our nation’s parks, Amtrak helps us advance the values of sustainable tourism.”

So glad to here about this initiative. For so long parks in the US have only been accessible by car. Major bus routes such as Greyhound don’t typically go to National Park Offices and neither do trains. It’s a step in the right direction for those without cars!

What a great service, as riding the train to a national park is environmentally friendly, as well as more relaxing than having to drive, and you get to enjoy the scenery too!

I’d love to visit the U.S. National Parks by rail, especially Glacier. Thanks for pointing me to this excellent resource.

That’s a great piece of information. I’d love to come back to the US and visit more National Parks but always refrained because I’m mostly traveling alone and renting a car would be too expensive.
Now you gave me an excellent reason to plan a new trip and enjoy more of that amazing nature!
