Says Upland Escapes:

“(The Julian Alps, Slovenia), the little-known corner of the European Alps boasts epic walks, stunning limestone mountains and crystal-clear emerald-green rivers. This evocative region is steeped in WW1 history and carefully protected – keep your eyes peeled and you may be lucky enough to spot boar, lynx, wolves and even brown bears.”

In recent years, Upland Escapes has won a Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Award 2009 (Best in a Mountain Environment) and winner of the TTG Travel Award 2007, ‘Scream if you’re Green’ Award.

The company says it aims to “minimize the negative impacts and maximize the positive benefits” in four key areas:
• Local economies;
• Local society and culture;
• Environment and
• Climate.
