Walking Tenerife

Mount Teide, Tenerife, Canary Islands.
Alex Sebuliba wrote this post on Tenerife walking holidays. Having visited many countries, but only as a holiday experience, he has decided to start his first solo travel in August 2011. He plans to start from Tenerife and gradually make his way to Uganda to discover his family roots and culture.
Tenerife is known for its incredible volcanic landscape.
The sharpness of the land can offer hill walkers and city strollers alike some breathtaking views and incredible memories.
You need to be fit to embrace the best walks on this stunning island, but there’s really no other excuse to miss out on these excursions.
The Teide National Park, home to Tenerife’s tallest mountain, has a whole network of trails to be taken either alone or in the company of a Park Guide.
The guided walks range in length from about 45 minutes up to 5 hours. It’s up to you whether you want to slog it out for a really rewarding view at Sieta Canadas or just want a peaceful stroll through this lunar landscape.
It’s even possible to try to climb to the summit of Teide itself and the Altavista refuge, just before the peak, is open for those who can’t make it to the top.
There aren’t exactly any flat areas in Tenerife, but when you’re taking the walk from Masca through the Barranco it is at least downhill.
This is a walk through some of Tenerife’s best scenery and at the bottom of the trail is a beautiful beach where you can be picked up by boat and taken to the harbour at Los Gigantes for a cooling drink.
At the opposite end of the scale, Vilaflor is Tenerife’s highest altitude town.
Starting in the village, the four-mile Paisaje Lunar Walk takes you from an isolated village to another world altogether – Tenerife’s famous ‘Lunar Landscape’.
There are some great information panels along the trail and picnic tables where you can stop to take a breath.
