Blue Mountains Walking Festival

Australia’s Blue Mountains.
Mountain traveler and lover in Australia? If you’re traveling or living in Australia, you might fancy the Blue Mountains Lithgow and Oberon Tourism Festival of Walking, coming up October 8-15, 2011.
The festival is taking place at locations throughout the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage area.
This eight-day festival will include free and costed events including walks, photographic exhibitions, wilderness treks and guided and self-guided activities.
“The Festival of Walking is a celebration of the beauty of nature, the health and well-being and benefits of walking, acknowledgement of Aboriginal custodianship and culture and homage to the history, heritage and conservation of this special region,” say festival organizers.
Highlights of the festival will be:
- Full Day Walk from Narrowneck to Mount Solitary, 7am-5pm, Saturday;
- A NPWS Discovery guided, all-day walk departing from the Golden Stairs car park, Raphael Street, Katoomba;
- A Walk Down Memory Lane, 2pm, Saturday;
- A Wedding adventure at Terrace Falls, Hazelbrook, 12 noon, Wednesday;
- Early Birds guided birding, Saturday & Saturday;
- Film Screening and Talk by environmental filmmaker Gary Caganoff at The Mountain Heritage Hotel and Spa Retreat, 7pm, Friday;
- Walking into history with the Australian Costumers Guild at Leura Cascades, 1pm, Sunday;
- National Pass guided half-day walk to Fairmont Resort, Saturday.
