Best Rail Vacation In 2010?

Are you looking for an unforgettable train vacation (and greener travel)? Then you could head to the Canadian Rockies and take the Rocky Mountaineer through the mountains.
Recently, the rail vacation was recognized as ‘Best Rail Vacation’ in the seventh annual Travel Weekly Readers’ Choice Awards. The US travel industry publication presents the Readers’ Choice awards to industry members who have achieved excellence in product and service during the year.
In 2009, Rocky Mountaineer was also named one of the “World’s Greatest Trips” by National Geographic and ranked as the number one train experience in the world by The Society of American Travel Writers.
Rocky Mountaineer features Canadian vacation packages and four rail routes through British Columbia and Alberta. The company is best known for the Rocky Mountaineer train, a two-day, all daylight rail journey through Canada’s West and the Canadian Rockies.

Absolutely sounds like my idea of travel heaven. Especially since rock-solid-reliable National Geographic are fans.
Pricey, I’m betting. (But worth it).

Train travel through wilderness areas is something not to be missed – you can’t get this view from 35,000 feet above – and the tracks often take paths where the roads are few and far between.
